We've had some heart achy things grasp hold of us in life; we've had surprises and challenges. There have been moments of overwhelming hilarity and happiness. This season for us is just full.
When I lay down my heart pounds in my ears and I beg for a moment of calm. I expect too much of people-to fill my heart up with that happy feeling. I exhaust myself even more trying to fit that patience into my day, like it's an awkward piece of a puzzle that wasn't cut right.
Last night my husband was out pulling a calf, my girl was asleep in bed and I had a moment. That Moment rained down on me. It's when I realized that we don't need to chase that quietness, we just have to simply Be Still. It's right there.
Jesus drops stuff in our laps all day long and we don't have to chase it like a wild animal.
There is sweet encouragement in the kindness of strangers.
There is tranquility in the sunset.
Laughter of a child is balm for any soul.
When I am still I'm overcome with gratitude for all these simple things. Oh, we all talk about the simple things, the simple life, but yes and amen, they are actually there. We just have to quiet the noise of life down and there they are.
If you just stop and take that breath, it's all right there, you don't have to find it. It's right there.
Hoping that in quietness you will find your strength today.

The quiet is what the soul craves. I have come to realize that life is not about the lists, the constant go-go rhythm, or pronouncing to the world that I "ran here and ran there" all day long. Life is about slowing down, breathing life in, and knowing that you are exactly where you need to be.
Take Care,
Jaclyn
Wonderful post Cheyenne!
I once had an inspirational speaker tell me, "you know...if you stop chasing that elusive "thing" you're after you will find that it's likely right behind you, so stop so IT can catch up to YOU! I've never forgotten it and over the years found it to be so true.
Have a beautiful peaceful day girl!
Cheyenne, this is beautiful. I love the way you have expressed yourself here. The line about patience being like a puzzle piece that just doesn't fit is amazing. I can really relate to this and let me tell you, reading these beautiful, faith-filled words is a balm to my soul today.
Thank you so much and I am so happy to see you back. I wish you so much happiness today!
Good advice , sounds like you have a full plate these days .Hope things calm for you soon at leas a little and ,remeber to breath!
Dear Cheyenne,
How timely this post is!! It seems that so many of us lately (myself included) are dealing with issues of one sort or another, that try our very souls!! Thank you for reminding us that we have a "Burden Bearer" who promises the very thing we need......REST!!
Wishing you REST, PEACE, and BlESSINGS today~~
Julie
hope things are on the up-swing for you. :(
Beautiful post. Thank you!
So serene and peaceful reading this. I hope all is well with you girl. Your little one is not so little anymore!
Sounds like you got it! That is the key..slow down, simplify..we need much less than we think and have to do not as much as we think. Good post! ;D
Very well said! Thank you.
I definitely had a wake-up call to slow down last week. Life is such a hurried pace all the time, we all need to just slow down it seems. Thank you for a beautiful post!
What a great post!
Ah, yes. Contentedness was my word for 2011. And, in some ways its been a hard word for me to focus on, and in others, it's been easy, because I have focused on the simple things to reach my goal of contentedness, and that's made it doable.
:-)
Wonderful post!
Such beautiful and true thoughts, dear girl..
Blessings..
Loved this post!!!
You have a way with words!!
very inspiring!
:)
Oh Cheyenne! I'm so sorry you're going through a rough time. If there's anything at all I can do, just give me a call! I'm a very good babysitter, if you ever need an afternoon nap or just time to get things done. :)
Thanks for the reminder that those quiet times are there if I just sit still for a minute....some days it seems far away but I have to remember its a choice I make! Luv yer blog.
sheila
Big Breath,
Your little girl is beautiful!! sleeping children capture that stillness.
Thanks!
yes. indeed. We must sit and find these 'moments'. I really liked this post , my friend!!! If I still lived a hop skip and jump away from you I'd snatch up that doll for a day so you could have an 'all-day-moment'! (does that make sense?!)
ps. Nice elephant, Tay;)xoxox
The clamor of the world intrudes; God speaks to us in the silence of our hearts. He is my happiness.
Just a beautiful post. Thank you.
Hello Cheyenne, I picked a lovely time to play catch-up with your blog... this post is beautiful, and exactly what my soul needed at this moment. Your lil one is growing so... I just love the photograph of her on the horse!
Your photographs of the winter past are beautiful as well. Thank you so much!
Yes, yes, yes. Be still and know (and hear and see and smell and feel).
God bless you.
Jody
Thank you for this! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Hey - I am certainly delighted to discover this. great job!
Cheyenne:
You wrote this wonderfully and captured the complexity of our everyday emotions and challenges just perfectly. My aunt had two sayings that she always told me when I was really stressed adn wound up about life: "This too shall pass" and "if it was meant for you, it won't go by you" sometimes they help. It's so hard to have perspective when you are in the middle of the "marbles" just having a bit of faith in yourself, trust in life and its course and knowing that all will move forward. That and a nice hot tea or a hot bath help too.
Your baby girl is so beautiful!
I think anyone that has kids will definitely agree with you on this post! It seems like all we do is run, run, and run. The more kids we have, the more we run. The most important thing I have learned about being a mom is that I have to slow down and find those simple things to delight in. If I don't, I run so fast right by them that I miss out on life. It's easy to do. So yes, we NEED to slow down and sit at the feet of Jesus every now and then to refresh our souls so we can be the best momma and wife we can be. Hugs to you girl, thanks for sharing! =]
Hi Cheyenne!
This is beautiful! I found in our vacation that I just loved being at the beach beacuse it is so calming and tranquility because you canNOT be at the ocean & not hear Jesus :) It is so true, Be Still :) Thanks for the reminder because now that I am home & back to "Life" it is hard to remember to stop & be quiet :)
Hope you are having a beautiful weekend!
