What can I say? It is the most breathtaking road you will ever take. It is like something out of a National Geographic magazine, without a yellow border around the photos. Law, my eyeballs were almost bugging out of my head, and it wasn't because I was shocked at the fact you pay $15 for a lil bag of coffee at the beginning of the park. No sir, it's because the view of God's finest is comparable to your first dog- a rare beauty.
You do need to be prepared for wall to wall traffic, some construction, and a screaming baby. Oh wait, you don't have a screaming baby? My hard and fast rule was to never give my kiddo food in her carseat, but gosh, I would've given her the $15 coffee and a Big Mac if I needed too!
This road is only seasonally open, and I don't know if the Chilkoot packers would want to be caught up there in the winter. It cost $25 for entrance to Glacier National Park, but that's for the week, and if you are into fishing, you can fish your heart out in the park. Not bad, considering we pay something like that a day up here in Banff.
If you are anywhere near Montana, or heck, if you aren't anywhere near Montana, set your GPS for this road of wonders and experience it in your lifetime. You need to!

anyplace in montana is on my bucket list...sigh...i was left at home last time the husband went up...never again!!
I went there in the late 90s, very beautiful place! I'll always remember the "Going to the Sun" Road.
I alwaysd wanted to take that road. A few years ago I went to a clinic in East Glacier park and thought of taking that road, but it was september and everyone thought it was a bad idea, so I do plan on taking it one day yet!
My husband and family went there after he graduated high school and he said that it was an amazing sight to see, but a little scary. Maybe someday we'll make the 17-18 hour trip over to that side of the state. I'd love to see Glacier!
Hope you had fun
So cool, that one is on our list! :-) Beautiful pics!
Bin there, done that. It is awesome. I went on the back of a motorbike years ago, a little nicer since the road seems wider on a bike.
I did that drive years ago , and I will never forget it! Beautiful!
This is DEFINITELY on my bucket list. I love Montana!
My memory from way-to-long ago is of being terrified! I was riding with my oldest sister and her family. When the road was on the 'bank side' I am sure I was leaning away from it, somehow helping the car to not go over the edge! I am afraid I don't remember the beauty....
Maybe that can be a trip for the Two of Us at some point and we will see if I am still a chicken or if I trust his driving.
So beautiful. I wanna go to Montana so much.
But no food in the carseat? It's our saving grace on trips over 2.5 hours in length! ;)
Cheyenne, thanks for leaving a comment on my blog. ( about the kitchen re-do )
Oh my, you have a wonderful blog too!
We traveled across Montana ( complete with the screeming baby :)) about 15 years ago. Absolutely beautiful. I was miffed that we didn't get to linger and explore very much. We had a deadline to get some stuff out of storage in New Hampshire, take baby to see grand parents down in North Carolina and then head back to Seattle in time for hubby to ship out to Korea. Kind of an "Around the US in 30 days" deal. Montana was one of the high points though.
i've always heard how beautiful Montana is. I haven't been there since I was a little girl.
I do need to see this gorgeous scenery up close one day, hopefully in the near future.
I've taken the Going to the Sun Highway several times! First when I was just a little girl and I really thought we were going to the sun!!! The last time I took it - years ago too but not as many as the first time - it snowed in June!! Really an amazing place! Great post!
Please visit me at my history blog - it's about St. Nicholas!

I've done that road too, and it was spectacular! I'm scared of heights and it literally took my breath away... but so beautiful!!!
One day soon, the trickery will begin and my husband somehow will unknowingly take his family on a road trip hopefully to Montana, yes kids probably screaming with big mac's handy... and if he hasn't figured out my mischief by then, heaven help him. Great pictures, looks like a great trip!
I agree it's gorgeous!! I haven't been in a few years but I love that trip!!
Wow, God's creative work is truly breath-taking! It looks so serene there. I love it!
