Choose Gratefulness in the Ordinary

Today I'm thankful for that blanket of white. This morning when I wandered the yard it was oh, so quiet with the fog that enveloped us.
Our winter has been mild and unseasonably warm.  I am grateful to have been able to dawdle around the yard.

My heart is happy to be able to see the sun sparkle on the snow, to feel the chill of frost on my cheeks, and to hear the hush of the morning. I'm grateful that I'll cozy into my flannel sheets and have lived an ordinary day; which is extraordinary in itself. My heart was turned and reminded to be in thankfulness for the simplicity of my day. To move my eyes towards the heavens, bow my heart, and quietly praise.
Sometimes, when those nightmares some of us have lived through are brought to mind, we want to shut our eyes tight and shake our heads.  I believe we need to remember our trials in life; remember what we've learned, the comfort we were shown, and in turn bestow the same comfort on others. We aren't meant to live in the past, but part of our suffering, whatever it may be, has made who we are now.

I was reminded to be ever grateful for this day.

"This is the day that the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it."

So beautiful. the timing could not have been better. 2 years ago today, my 13-day-old nephew went to heaven. he had a serious heart defect. you are right. looking back on how painful that day was for all of us, makes me very grateful for the ordinary of today. and yet, looking back, one little baby boy changed us all in his short time here. thank you for a beautiful post...

Beautiful gratefulness, Cheyenne! You stir my heart with these words & pictures. I read today as the spring will turn our season again. "Life is not an emergency". When we are still we can hear our lives singing.

Ah, yes. I was reflecting yesterday that it's when I stop to notice the beautiful little details, that is when I feel the most thankful and content, and can find joy in those things that aren't real fun, like laundry and floor scrubbing. Attempting to do that... :-)

Your photos are SO lovely!

Beautiful! And so true. If we can't rejoice in the small beauties, how will we ever appreciate the truly great things?

Yes, I have to stop and remind myself to rejoice in each day that God has blessed me with, even the very ordinary, mundane days!
