Rustic Love

This afternoon there are a few moments of silence in this house. I have a smattering of stuff I wanted to share with you and I was going to write a post with a motley crew of thoughts. Alas, I know my yap portion would be too large to shove that all on one post. For the next few days, watch out for bits of random. It's how I roll.

FTW features beautiful photos that capture things with a bit of unpolished feel; her 'rustic love.' These photos win a spot in my heart. I don't really chat fashion or art, but I can spot an old homestead miles away. My love of history makes me want to kiss an old barn and weep when any ancient of days building has to come down. I don't just love looking at these photos, I have a weakness for storing up the stories in these scenes as well.

I was out to visit some friends in the east country when much to my girlfriend's demise I whipped out the camera like a foreigner here for a visit and started shooting photos in her house. Nope, not of the chubby babies and little girls riding their hawses, but of the woman's banister. Ay yi yi! I do believe I might have flipped my lid.
Bonnie, you're a dreamboat! Thanks for explaining how to rotate this

The first time I saw the banister and lil gate blocking tiny feet from tumbling down the stairs, I knew it held a spot in my ticker. Her husband built it and I love to sing it's praises. Let's have a moment of quiet to view that piece of art in all her glory. Yes and amen.

Now, tell me sisters, do you have stairs in your home? Do they lead to a dungeon or take you up to the highest tower in your house? Do you have an old quilt draped over the banister, a photo wall leading up those steps, or nothing but the neat stripes that are left on freshly vacuumed stairs? Any rustic love?

I am a thinkin' that this lock on the gate would keep most anything from entering....

Could it be the Mr. that hangs his hat on the post? I have my doubts that the Mrs. could reach that high!

Love it!

As for my steps, I have a quilt that hangs on the wall above the steps. Just took down the Christmas one (mustn't hurry these things.... ) and now there is a more summery look.

Love it when you blog......

How fun is that banister?! Love it! My husband built a "fence" out of barnboard for around our Christmas tree...works like a dream!

Our farm house used to have stairs. It hasn't for several decades. I'd like to put stairs to the upstairs in again.
To make it easier to fix the windows up there, if nothing else.

I like old buildings, too. Makes me sad, too, when one has to come down.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Love the banister and gate, I have the worst stairs in the world , narrow and steep, I just have a plain old door to block the tiny visitors when they are here, but that would be wonderful

I haven't figured out yet what to do with our newly refurbished very tight-quarters staircase. I'm thiniking about a mural on the back wall.

LOVE these pics, love the wood!

That is a fantastic banister! What a great idea!!!

My stairs have the old railing that is worn down with several coats of paint showing through here and there. That is a little rustic, right? Probably that cobweb way up high that drives me crazy is rustic (but apparently it does not bother me enough to get rid of it).

(I open my pictures in Paint and rotate them there if nothing else works.)

Oh I love that!!! We have stairs going downstairs through the porch but no little feet to block so we have no gate, but I sure would love one like that anyways :)

I have a home built in 1865 that has it's original stairs and banister. I LOVE this house. Anything old and historic reachs out and grabs me by the throat.

As for the sideways photo, I used to have the same problem. Before you send it to Picnik, you can rotate it in the folder on your own computer. After you have it, left click on your mouse. Then click on the rotate clockwise button and wait for the photo to turn. Then go to picnik or to blogger and upload it to your blog post. It should stay where you put it then. E-mail me back if this isn't clear and I'll try to explain better. Good luck.

I'm always looking for old barn boards or fence boards to do stuff with. Whoever built this gate sure did a nice job.
I have lots of antiques in my house.

I love old, rustic things. I have cottonwood limbs that I sanded and varnished into hand rails for my stairway. There are old family photos going up our stairway and hall along with a couple of old branding irons that we no longer use. I love barnwood too. Looking forward to more good stuff from you.

I am loving that banister!!!

old jars, kitchen things, tin buckets rusted and faded with time. I can not leave those behind. I fill them with plants, utensils, junk, whatever:)

Seems like I am in a stealing mood today!!!! I just e-mailed hubby these photos - we have a banister that is currently awful 1981 style going downstairs - this would suit our place to a tee!!

Oh I love rustic, and I love the rail and gate of your friend's home! Genious! We have a builder banister, typical oak that leads upstairs and to our basement guest suite. I have plans to paint it, but it will never be as cool as the one in your photos. Thanks for sharing.

I absolutely LOVE this!

No stairs in my house but in my parents. And old quilts drape them. And the stairs have an interesting curve in them that some people think is scary I personally love the character. The house was built in 1913 so I'm sure you would love it :)
