Living on the Funny Farm

I thought life was a little on the cuh-razy side when we were attacking some reno's in this here abode while I was nine million months pregnant - until I stopped and realized what was actually coming out of my mouth today.

A little before. I have photos of the process, but I'll spare you the details.
Ripping apart this bedroom, to spray foam insulation in and finding a GIANT bird's nest in the ceiling, a table hockey game, multiple vintage board games and an old wallpaper sample book from the 40's was nothing.
Thanks to Alyssa Penner out of Drayton Valley, Alberta,  for the photos. She took time out of her visit with her sister to come and take pictures of our wild prairie children. I don't know if we were more than she bargained for when she was led to the loft of the barn.
Pulling up the carpet- sanding, sanding, filling every single crack in the original hardwood, sanding, and sanding some more 'till I was praying the sander would blow up, was not crazy.
We put new dry wall up and painted the walls a very boring tan. I thought anything could go up on the walls to spruce the place up.
What was a little on the unbalanced side was when I actually said to my two year old, "Do not rope your sister," in a calm manner. I didn't realize that this is not your normal everyday conversation.  Complete with blue ribbon out of my sewing cupboard, she looked up at me and said, "catch Momma?"
My favorite part of this room a few weeks ago was the floor. I think the sheer amount of effort that went into it, made me want to kiss it sometimes. Now my favorite part of the room is that baby in the crate. No, it is not her bed for the night.

Mercy law, send in the troops.

The title of your post reminded me of the door mat I bought for our trailer. I posted about it here.

I would not have liked finding all those birds in my house, but I would have loved finding those pieces of history.

I think the room looks gorgeous. Absolutely fantastic! :)

Love the vintage look. I see you have some Burgess books- I used to get the Burgess books of bedtime stories by mail order from the Victoria Public Library when I was a kid. Reddy the Fox, Jimmy the Skunk, Peter Rabbit, Farmer Brown.... oh that brings back memories!
Any chance you'll be able to come to Red Deer on Friday? A bunch of us bloggin' wimmen are getting together at the Canadian Cow Horse Supreme.

The baby is the perfect decoration to finish the room - love the floors and the sweet blocks and books on the cupboard, and all that smooth clean wall space. Well done.

Oh Cheyenne! What a sweet sweet pic of the babe :) She is ADORABLE & I can't think of a better place to store her :)

It is funny what we find ourselves sayin' to our kids isn't it! :)

Your room turned out just GORGEOUS! I always think it is only painful for a little while. :) But that sounded VERY painful! But WOW!! You did an AMAZING job! I think I would kiss that floor & the baby!

A beautiful room and a beautiful baby, too! :) A labor of love I am sure (for both! LOL!). I love Willow Tree figurines and that one is perfect for this room. Awesome job on everything- especially that sweet hardwood floor!

Oh boy. I wish SO bad I'd written down some of the crazy sentences I've said since we had children.

Those floors look spectacular!

And, the baby is SO precious... Great photos of all!

So much fun to find treasures like that in your own house. I'm jealous. Not of the bird nest, just the cool stuff, haha.

I just love it, Chey. I remember being up in that room when I was a little girl... You did a great job & I am sure all the work is now worth it!

Amazing how much work goes into renos, but I think it was worth it. Sure looks good. I like the baby in the crate too, very adorable :)

so cute - the room and most of all the babe!
Renos are the best when they're done ... kind of like labour :) hope all is well and you're settling in to new role as Mom of two !

I have done many home renos myself, as well as hiring contractors to do the jobs I thought I didn't have time for. Doing them myself has always been less frustrating and far more satisfying (as proven by you wanting to kiss the floors). What you are left with is truly a labor of love! Or should I say two :) What a beautiful baby!!!

Hi Cheyenne, I had a lot of catching up to do, and had a wonderful time doing it! As usual, your posts and photographs are lovely... sigh!
You've added a new lil blessing since I last visited! What an angel! And your oldest has grown so! Many blessings to you and yours, Cheyenne!
